The Linksys CFE partitions flash with two linux boot partitions, switching between them after three (consecutive?) incomplete or failed boots. It also has a bug that limits NVRAM to 32KB, for which a third-party XVortex CFE (ported from an Asus RT-AC68U) is available to mitigate. The XVortex CFE only uses a single linux boot partition.

I recently purchased a E8350 and keep having Wifi problems ("no internet" sign - which would however also disable connection to the router, so it cannot be the WAN connection - and/or full wifi disconnects). This happens on all my devices and both on the 5 Ghz as well as 2.4 Ghz range. The router Linksys/Belkin sent me a brand new replacement and it has the same vpn issues. I've been waiting for new firmware to make wrt1900ac stable and such. I know this is a slim chance but I hope Linksys/Belkin will upgrade everyone to E8350 from WRT1900ac for free because they screwed it up with Marvell company saying its opened source and current firmware semi stable. I didn't paid over $205 for I have been looking at several aftermarket firmwares, but so far none of the big ones (DD-WRT, OpenWRT, Tomato) supports my router. I did a bit more digging and found out that there is an (almost?) identical router, the E8350, and the FCC sticker on my E8400 also says E8350. It appears that the specs of these routers are the same. For reference, here are the specs:

How we found our E8500 DD-WRT router. Because of some of the work that we do in the really real world we tend to work with non-profit accounts which shall remain unnamed for their security as well as our own.
